Todo el mundo By Howard Goldstein There are many law firms that limit their family law practice to collaborative divorce. Our firm does not. We offer a full range of services for divorcing people, including collaborative divorce, mediation and litigation advocacy, including trials in all court in Massachusetts. We are committed to helping each client determine what approach is the most likely one to get them through the divorce process with the best outcome. We consider "best outcome" to include minimizing conflict and acrimony and maintaining post divorce relationships, in addition to financial results, which clients will sometimes make the mistake of concentrating on to the exclusion of other considerations. It is our belief that "collaborative law" optimizes the chances for a "best outcome" but it is not indicated in every case. What is collaborative divorce? You should see the other article entitled "Getting Divorced? You Have Options" by this author for details, but essentially in Collaborative Divorce clients choose specially trained collaborative divorce lawyers who are committed to a negotiated settlement. Clients agree in advance not to go to court except for obtaining of the divorce judgment, in an uncontested proceeding. Negotiations are conducted primarily in meetings with clients and attorneys in the room. Full disclosure and transparency is the hallmark of this process. Gamesmanship, threats to "see you in court" and the like are absent from this process. In the event the case does not settle, the collaborative attorneys are required to withdraw from the case and the clients choose new litigation counsel. With this feature the attorneys have no incentive to foster litigation. Sounds Great right? Why shouldn't everyone choose Collaborative Divorce? The following are reasons NOT to choose collaborative law: 1. Domestic violence or child abuse. Any history of recent domestic violence makes it foolish and perhaps even dangerous to consider a process in which parties are required to sit in the same room. 2. History of Financial misconduct: In a contested divorce financial restraining orders preventing the transfer of assets can be obtained automatically upon commencement of the case. This can prevent marital assets from disappearing. If there is a meaningful concern about this kind of behavior, clients should go to court immediately. 3. Serious mental illness: If one party has major depression, substance abuse, or psychosis, Collaborative Law is unlikely to work, although there is little risk in trying. Often an experienced Collaborative Lawyer is the best resource a person with such a disability can have, although, there may be a need for court intervention if the party's ability to participate in the process is seriously impaired. In that situation a court appointed "Guardian ad Litem" will be appointed to act on behalf of the impaired spouse, and in such situations, Collaborative Divorce may be difficult to pursue. 4. If one party is not committed to the Process. For Collaborative divorce to work, both parties have to be committed to attempting to work in this fashion. If one party refuses to be transparent about disclosing information, or is using the Collaborative Divorce process as a way to delay or avoid dealing with the hard issues, then the only way to move things along so the parties can finally be divorced, is to go to court. Most litigated cases end up settling eventually and for that reason even if Collaborative Divorce, as formally practiced is inappropriate, it does not mean that your divorce will be World War III, however, it is important that clients not be afraid to obtain the protection of the court when indicated. Todo el mundo By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Nicosia]Philip Nicosia Bad acting. Tacky costumes. Princesses that either wear too much makeup or sport hairdos inspired by very large pastries. Who wouldve guessed that Star Wars wouldve had such a large cult following, moving grown men to attend premiere nights dressed in full costume, and fighting over who has the biggest light saber? But apparently, the Force lies Strong, surviving the long decades after the first trilogy, and the highly disappointing prequels. Whats the secret? Maybe not the actual movies, but the lovable characters. Villains with a sensitive past. Unlikely heroes who possess powers greater than even they imagine. Robots who possess more personality than their plastic parts reveal. Thats why every little kid who watches the Star Wars movies walks out of the movie theatre wanting to be a Jedi. And with the Stars Wars merchandise available, you can be a Jedi. Except for the slight problem. Youd look pretty stupid brandishing a light saber at work, and the costumes wont exactly meet the Office Dress Code. (Although you know what they say about how black matches everything) So the only way to channel your inner Jedi without being branded a total geek is through the Star Wars Voice Ringtonesactual characters and their famous lines, activated whenever somebody makes a call or sends a text message. One of the most popular voice ring tones is Yoda, whose strange grammatical structures and cryptic messages have made him the Star Wars Equivalent of Buddha (albeit a short, green and hairy version of him). There are several messages available. Answer the phone you must! he admonishes, whenever you let the phone ring a little too long. (Hes always been good at telling people what to do. Why not assign this particular voice ring tone to your bosswho is, probably, equally short, green and hairy). Another popular version is Press the button and fulfill your destiny!. Which makes you feel a little more important, as if the future of the universe depends on you taking the call. Even if its just your wife telling you to pass by the supermarket and buy a dozen eggs before going homealthough we can guess what your destiny would be if you forget to run her errands. Assign this ring tone to her, or any significant other who has the power to make you very happy, or very, very miserable. Of course, Yodas not the only Star Wars character who deserves his own voice ring tone. Theres Chewbacca, whose roars and grunts can clearly be translated into Get the darn phone, or Ill beat the heck out of you. Aaah, but we all know hes just a very big teddy bear. Who also happens to wield a very big gun. But a teddy bear nonetheless. A great ring tone to assign to your mother. Shell be calling you frequently. And then theres R2D2, and his cheerful beeps and whistles, and See-Threepio (C3-PO)Princess Leias loyal escorts, who acted as her digital secretaries long before people were even using computers at work. Todo el mundo By Cheryl Lynch Simpson Are you in denial about the lifelessness of your resume? If you are reasonably qualified for the type of work you seek, yet your resume is consistently failing to win you interviews, then you need to face the reality that your beloved document is dead.
Try theseprofessional resume writingtechniques to resurrect your resume and your job search today:
Problem #3: Resume Is Blind
In your eagerness to cut your job search work load have you reduced your objective statement to something grandiose and vague, something that you hope speaks to every employer but which, in fact, communicates to none? A resume with no focus is blind; without a clear focus in your resume an employer cannot perceive what youre offering them; without a concisely stated vision in your resume an employer cannot grasp the big picture of how you fit into their organization.
Solution#3: Give Your Resume Vision So Employers Can See You
Craft a creative career summary statement. A career summary statement is just that - a summary or profile of your career to date. Remember that your career includes all the paid and unpaid things youve done and that even if you dont value this experience, an employer will. Claim your career focus in your summary, then in 2-3 sentences profile your most relevant skills and experience.
Describe your creative gifts in terms that relate to the employers needs. Whatever your specific creative gifts (and you do have them), describe them in the body of your resume. Use adjectives and nouns to describe yourself in your summary, mini job descriptions or success stories.
Match your resumes layout, font style, graphics and paper to your career goal. If you are seeking work in a conservative industry like banking or insurance, then choose a traditional layout, a formal-looking font, few graphics and conservative white, beige or gray paper.
If you are looking for work in a highly creative industry like advertising or graphic arts, then choose a creative or functional resume layout, an unusual but readable font, creative graphics and expressive textured paper, perhaps with a colorful border around the edge.
How do you know what is right for you and your preferred industry? Conduct informational interviews with hiring professionals in that field and ask them what fits and what does not.
Use your resume to hint at your responses to interview questions. If youre like most job seekers, you hate having to prepare answers for interviewing questions. A resume acts like a template for your interviews, so if you consider the typical questions you will be asked and succinctly weave bits of your responses into your resumes, you will be leading the interviewer in the direction you choose.
Use your resumes content to design a powerful cover letter to match. Do not send resumes without cover letters! Do not take shortcuts with cover letters! Do not send the same generic cover letter to every employer you contact! Doing so will guarantee you failure. If you prefer success you will have to work for it, but it will pay off.
Select the 3-5 most critical points you made in your resume and restate them in the second paragraph of your personalized cover letter. Weave some of the same adjectives and nouns you used in your resume into your cover letter.
Problem #4: Resume Has No Personality
One of the greatest weaknesses of most resumes is an almost total lack of personality. You are selling you, not a piece of wood! Nothing adds life to a lifeless document like uniqueness, so talk about yours.
Solution #4: Give Your Resume Personality To Attract Employers To You
Draw attention to your uniqueness. Consider carefully the 5-7 adjectives or descriptive phrases that best describe you, your qualifications, your values and your personality and weave them into your career summary, your success stories and your cover letter.
Take those same 5-7 adjectives and identify other words that mean the same thing. Use your second set of adjectives and phrases and use them to describe yourself in interviews.
Express who you really are, not who you think you should be. Select graphics, font style and paper that express your essence as well as they match the industry you hope to join. Know what makes you you and describe it in writing for your resume/cover letter and express it verbally for interviews.
Stress your people skills. Interpersonal skills are critical for many jobs; possessing them can be your ticket to great opportunities, but you must a.) honestly possess them; b.) know how/when to use them; c.) be willing to learn what you dont know; and d.) be prepared to demonstrate your skills in your resumes, cover letters and interviews.
Be personal and warm rather than impersonal and objective. There is a difference between being personal and intimate in writing and conversation; strive for the former, yet avoid the latter.
Read company literature and web sites and quote their own words back to them as you use their words to demonstrate the match between you. Use quotes from other sources as appropriate.
Be quotable. Let your research show: Let your reader know that you know something about their organization and its needs.
Consider your personal style as a job seeker and as a professional. Do you know that how you job search conveys to an employer how you will perform on the job?
Reflect on your personality and work-related values and design a job search and work style that expresses them. Make sure all your written materials, thank you letters included, convey that style.
Dead resumes create lifeless results! Work is too important in life to allow your search for it to drain you. Resurrect your resume with these simple solutions and you will revitalize your job search and your work life. Todo el mundo By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Knut_Holt] Knut Holt Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a persistent blood pressure above 90 mm Hg between the heart beats (diastolic) or over 140 mm Hg at the beats (systolic). The blood pressure varies naturally in response to stress and physical work load. Therefore the blood pressure shall be measured in a relaxed situation and several times before this diagnosis is certain.
Hypertension does not in itself give dramatic symptoms, but it is dangerous because it causes a highly increased risk for heart infarction, stroke and renal failure. THE PREVALENCE OF HYPERTENSION One out of six persons is hypertensive. Most persons suffering from hypertension is over the age of 35. Still 6% of teenagers are hypertensive and also 1% of every child. THE SYMPTOMS AND CONSEQUENCES OF HYPERTENSION Hypertension is often without symptoms. By mild hypertension, flushing and headache can occur. More serious hypertension gives symptoms like: Fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, tachycardia (rapid heart rate) and nosebleeds. Extreme hypertension gives morning headache, blurred vision, dyspnoea (breathing difficulties) and elevated values of certain components in the blood, like urea and serum creatinine.
Hypertension will in the long run hurt the blood vessels, and serious hypertension can do extensive damage to the blood vessels in a few months or years. The damaged blood vessels will impair the blood flow. They can also rupture causing a bleeding or be clogged by a blood clot that shuts out the blood flow and causes tissue damage. These things can occur in the brain, causing a stroke, in the heart causing heart infarction or in the kidneys with renal failure as a consequence. A renal failure will in the next turn cause the hypertension to aggarvate, partly because a damaged kidney will not manage to secrete water and salt well enough, and partly because a kidney that do not get enough blood will start a hormonal mechanism that induces the kidney to actively hold back salt and water. THE MECHANISMS AND CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION The direct mechanisms causing hypertension is one or more of these factors:
- An increased tension in the blood vessel walls.
- An increased blood volume caused by elevated levels of salt and lipids in the blood holding back water.
- Hardened and inelastic blood vessels caused by arteriosclerosis. The primary causes behind these mechanisms are not fully understood, but these factors contribute to causing hypertension:
- A high consume of salt
- A high fat consume.
- Stress at work and in the daily life.
- Smoking.
- Over-weight
- Lack of exercise.
- Kidney failure. LIFESTYLE MEASURES TO PREVENT AND TREAT HYPERTENSION Lifestyle measures shall always be a component of the hypertension treatment. Sometimes such measures are enough to cure the condition. Those measures are:
- Reducing salt consume.
- Reduction of the consume of fat, and especially saturated fat.
- Weight reduction.
- Relaxing and stress reduction techiques, for example meditation and autogenic training.
- Regular exercise. SPECIAL FOOD TYPES THAT REDUCE THE BLOOD PRESSURE Research projects suggest that the following food types reduce blood pressure.
- Fish oil and fat fish. The working substances seem to be the omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The effect from fish oil seems to cease when the fish oil supplements are stopped.
-Olive oil, especially olive oil of the quality extra virgin. NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS TO HELP AGAINST HYPERTENSION Natural supplements to treat hypertension exist. These supplements reduce blood pressure by lowering the cholesterol and lipid content in the blood, by preventing oxidation of tissue components by free radicals, and by helping damaged blood vessels to heal. Examples of ingredients having these effects are vitamin B3, inositol, turmenic extract and gum guggul extract.
They may also contain Ingredients giving a direct anti-hypertensive effect, like potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin C and fatty acids from marine sources. MEDICAL TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION When lifestyle measures and supplements are not enough to cure the condition, medical treatment must be applied. Diuretics, or medicines to increase the urine production, are used to decrease the water content in the blood vessels, and thereby reduce the pressure in the vessels. When the water content is lowered, the heart does not need to pump so hard any more, and this will also reduce the pressure. Beta-adrenergic blockers are another group of medicines to treat hypertension. This group of medicines block the signals that hormones and neurotransmitters give to the vessel walls, and the vessel walls then relax. They also slow down the heart rate to give a lower pressure exerted by the heart upon the blood. ---------------------------------------------------

Todo el mundo By Brett Laffin What is enthusiasm? Well, consulting good ol' Mr. Webster, you could stake a claim that enthusiasm is "an absorbing possession of the mind by an interest, study, or pursuit; [an] ardent interest." Isn't that a typical Webster's dictionary for you? It gives you the literal meaning of the word, but fails to actually convey its true essence. When I think of 'enthusiasm', I immediately think of a wise saying that you may have heard: "The true spirit of enthusiasm can be found in its own last four letters: 'I Am Sold Myself'." You see, enthusiasm is a lot like passion. One cannot be merely 'excited' about something and at the same time be 'passionate' about it. Passion involves every aspect of your existence, combined into one big swirl of dedication, love, and appreciation for something or someone. Before you go any further in your career - or in your life - you must ask yourself the question, "Am I enthusiastic about what I am doing right now?" If you take into consideration the wisdom in the passage above, you may be surprised at your own answer. To be enthusiastic about something is to be so involved with the idea of its existence, potential, and prospects in the future, that you yourself believe in it whole-heartedly, 110%. When you write your sales copy, be sure to let your enthusiasm SHINE through your words. Too many people simply state what a product can do for a customer if he or she purchases it. Instead, try not to word your copy to be read like 'sales material'. In fact, you should aim to craft your copy like it won't be read at all! Your words should seem like YOU YOURSELF are standing in front of your customer, discussing the incredible aspects of your product with them! For example, you may have a sales pitch like... "Brand new software eliminates the need for hours and hours of keyword searches!" ...But when you let your enthusiasm into the picture, that stale sale pitch could become... "What would you pay to spend two more hours with your family TONIGHT, instead of working on the Internet? Help has finally arrived!" You see how much more intriguing the second headline reads? It doesn't give too much about the product away right off the bat, but it directly represents how your product will HELP YOUR CUSTOMER! Plus, when the line is read, it feels as if you are being SPOKEN TO, not PITCHED TO! That means more clicks on that link, more people interested in learning about your product, and (if you play the rest of your cards right...) more sales in the end! Just allow your enthusiasm into your life more often, and I will guarantee that it won't just be your wallet that will benefit! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Todo el mundo By Kathleen Wilson Many times when the weather becomes sultry, the only place we want to be is in our favorite chair on the porch, sipping ice-cold lemonade! So, if we are to spend our summer months languishing with Mother Nature, why not treat our "outdoor room" to a little freshening up, and make our time outdoors more enjoyable! Here are some great, easy ideas you can use to add your own personal style to a much used "summer home"! Treat your outdoor space just like an indoor room when you think about decorating it. Mother Nature has got the ceiling covered in most cases, but you should think about floors, furniture, accessories, color, and, yes, walls, just like any other project! Choose a theme, even if it's just color! Use existing fencing, tall plants, trellising, etc... for your walls, or just imply that walls exist by arranging your furnishings as if they did! Dress up old patio furniture with cushions (easily made out of leftover fabric), a little paint, and maybe some stenciling or stamping. Details bring that "homey" feeling to the space. If you don't have furniture, buy those inexpensive resin chairs and make cushions out of a bright cheery fabric. Tables can be made out of a lot of "junk." Stepladders make great little drink tables. I found one of those large "spools" used by the utility companies in my yard when I moved in - it's a bit weathered, but turned on its side, it makes a terrific table! Paint leftover squares of plywood and set them on top of unused large pots, or on a birdbath. Two pots and a larger piece of wood make a great coffee/breakfast table. Tiki torches are relatively inexpensive, and add great ambience! Forget that expensive outdoor lighting set! Make luminaries out of recycled cans to light a walkway. Remove labels, fill with water, and then put in the freezer for a couple of hours. When they're frozen, use a hammer and nail to poke holes in a pattern, similar to punched tin. Stars, hearts, butterflies, even just zigzag lines will let the light shine through in an interesting pattern. (The freezing of water prevents the can from denting when you punch it.) Thaw, drain, put some sand, dirt, or gravel in the bottom to anchor a votive candle - instant charm, for the price of the candles! This is great for a party or barbecue, by the way! Paint those boring planters! Once again, a few tubes of craft paint and a little imagination can make all the difference. Nothing fancy is needed- stripes, dots, squiggles, sponged-on shapes all can make designer accents. How about gluing on some stones or shells? Since we are already painting planters, how about free ones? I recycle kitty litter buckets, plastic ice cream buckets, coffee cans, etc... Just poke some drainage holes in the bottom, paint and decorate, and plant! Take the time to dress up your outdoor spacesit doesnt have to cost a lot of money, and it will help create a relaxing sanctuary to wile away those lazy days! (If you actually have any of those!) Todo el mundo By Samantha Stevens Sometimes, after a relationship has ended, many of us have problems letting go. A lot of my clients often complain of feeling haunted or even possessed by the dearly departed (who probably isn't even thinking of you at all and is busy happily running away with his or her new partner.) It's like the person has left an indelible imprint upon your heart and many of us feel that we can't go on until the ex returns. The energy of the ex might be manifesting itself in all sorts of ways --- in what you perceive to be little omens or reminders that occur in every day life (such as a phrase or song lyric) or even as a visitor in your dreams. There are all kinds of cures for this phenomenon, (everything from burning bundles of sage to clear the room of the ex's vibe to throwing out every single reminder of him or her, including the bed.) Yet before you ditch the Sealy Posturepedic, I suggest you try this little exercise called "Cutting The Cord." The idea behind this is that whenever we connect to someone we connect to him or her at the point of our solar plexus, the area just below your diaphragm. When we first meet someone and fall in love, we spend a lot of time building up this energy which lightworkers say looks like a rope of light that connects two people. However, even after one person disappears, the rope can still remain. Often, the person who is left behind spends a lot of time fortifying that rope with his or her own psychic energy in an attempt to bring the person back. The ex can compare to a psychic vampire, who is gleefully sucking back the energy that the dumped person is sending them. It doesn't even matter if you are sending them bad thoughts or resentment. That energy is often translated to them in the purest form of astral energy -- and they use it to transmute and feed their new relationship. So in order to prevent yourself being sucked dry by the psychic vampire, oops I mean the ex, I suggest you try this: Lie down on the bed, breathe deeply and become as relaxed as you can. Now picture the other person and the cord of light that you created when you thought the both of you would be connected for all eternity. Visualize that cord as best you can and examine it. How thick is it? What colour is it? What is it made of? Now choose your weapon. What will you use to cut this cord? Do you need a knife or is the connection so strong that it can be broken only by hacking at it with a machete? If a machete doesn't work, try a buzz saw. My favourite is a huge pair of golden scissors. Now, in your mind's eye, snip, hack chop, sever ... do whatever you have to do to cut the cord. Picture the other person floating away from you like a helium balloon let loose in the sky ... and smile and wave "bye bye!" Oddly, one of the side benefits (or drawbacks depending on how you look at it) is that the other person senses the detachment. Like a greedy psychic vampire, they will come back to see where their source of energy has gone. So not only does this exercise your astral health, but it often brings the ex back. That is, if you even want them back at all. Samantha Steven's articles have been published in many high-standing newspapers and she has published several books. Todo el mundo By Jennifer McCleary Decorative concrete is a new trend that is taking the home improvement world by storm! Dont let that boring concrete bring your home down, style it up. Decorative concrete can be comprised of many different applications, it can be painted on to create a fuax finish, or precut pieces of concrete laid in a decorative pattern. There are many different outcomes you can get from the decorative concrete techniques. Its all up to you and your personality! The technique that Im going to tell you about will take that ugly, gray concrete and make it look like brick. This technique looks great on steps and walkways, but can be used anywhere. It is also very simple and inexpensive! You will only need a few supplies. First you will need thick masking tape. Four to five rolls will usually cover a ten by ten flat area so judge how much you need accordingly. You will also need rulers, a piece of tag board, painting sponges, and your desired paint colors. You can ask your local paint store person for what type of paint works best on the type of concrete you have. Once you have your supplies gathered, the first thing you need to do is create a guide for your bricks. Decide how large you want your bricks, I have found that a 3 x 6 rectangle looks most natural. You will then cut your tag board to the size that you desire. Once you have your guide, it is time to start laying your tape. Start by laying your tape in one direction first, either all horizontally, or all vertically. Use your guide to measure the space in between. After you have your horizontal or vertical lines laid, use your guide to lay the tape going the other direction. As you now see this creates a nice grid. The exposed concrete will be become your bricks and the space in between will look like the mortar. After your grid is laid out then you need to start painting. Take your sponge and start dabbing the bare concrete with the paint. By using sponges instead of rollers and brushes, you will create a more natural look. When you are done painting, all that is left is to let the paint dry, and then peel off the tape. Its as simple as that! Now you will have a beautiful brick staircase or walkway! Like I said before, there are many different ways to apply decorative concrete. Todo el mundo By Dean Caporella Largemouth bass fishing when mentioned among a group of dedicated anglers can engender levels of excitement that only those who regularly cast a line can appreciate. Largemouth bass love a contest and of course, so do anglers! Understanding some basic principles of largemouth bass fishing will increase your chances of having a satisfying outing and a good catch to earn bragging rights the next time you catch up with your fishing buddies. Tips And Techniques - Bait is crucial in fishing. That's an understatement. Whether to use artificial or live bait is a question often asked. Most often, you need to use a "suck it and see" approach. The fish will often let you know what they prefer simply by how often they are biting. - Plastic worms in a variety of colors according to many fisherman are usually a preferred option. By having a range of colors, you can mix them up and if you are getting good results with one then stick with it. Alternatively, if one color isn't working then swith to another. - If you are using live bait then make sure the bait is kept fresh and not allowed to go off. Purchasing worms in large quantity could produce unsuitable odors so it might pay to split them up into air tight containers. - As with most things in life, having a plan before execution gives you the best chance of success. The same applies to largemouth bass. In fact, always have a back up plan to fall back on. Look for areas where the level of noise activity is low. This is why getting to your fishing destination at "the crack of dawn" is always preferred. - Areas where the fish can congregate such as around rocks and weed are good options. Even try around jetty structures or other areas of cover. Largemouth bass are expert at ambushing their intended prey. Remember, if you don't get results the first time, be prepared to move to a different spot. Largemouth bass are expert at ambushing their intended prey. - Try and ascertain signs of life around your fishing area. Birds are a good indication of fish being present. If there is baitfish around and the birds are feeding then it's a good bet that the largemouth bass won't be far away. - Largemouth bass are comfortable in deep or shallow water but they usually like staying out of a current flow. Your gear should include equipment for both levels of water. Always have selection of surface and deep water lures. Water currents are a factor as well. If there is a current present, then look at fishing the covered areas. - Finally, don't become predictable. Be prepared to try different things. Move as often as you have to. If the fish aren't biting on plastic or live bait, then try a reaction lure. If you are fishing an area with murky water color try a clearer area. If you are in deep water and exhausted all bait options, then try more shallow depths. Largemouth bass fishing can test a novice angler's ability and patience but the key is not to become stuck in a routine. If it's not working, change it. Dean Caporella is a professional broadcaster. Todo el mundo By Kurt Hurley All of our behavior results from the thoughts that preceded it, so the thing to work on is not your behavior, but the thing that caused your behavior, your thoughts.
- Dr. Wayne Dyer Let me preface this article with the notion that I truly, indeed detest the word diet, but for simplicities sake Ill use it! The stark reality is that sometimes eating too little can be a literal roadblock in attaining a lean fit and healthy body. Eating less in daily calories (food/nutrients), than your minimum metabolic needs causes your body to burn muscle and store fat. This is what is called the 'Starvation Metabolism' response, where the body, when deprived of adequate calories, will adapt to need fewer calories to function. As a result, dieters often regain the weight they lose almost immediately because they have starved their body into becoming a "fat-storing machine." Sadly the truth! For most of its history, the human race was subject lock, stock and smoking barrel to the whims and fancies of dear old Mother Nature, especially where our nutritional needs were concerned. When the conditions were right, food was plentiful; when they were not, the populace starved. As a result, evolution shaped our progenerators bodies in such a way that during times of plenty, they were able to pack on layers of fat to provide them with the sustenance they needed to get through the lean timesnot the fit times, the LEAN times! And as evolution would have it, humans became adept at mastering their environment, nevertheless, famines grew rare, and the built-up fat reserves often went unused; our ability to manipulate the environment had exceeded nature's slow practice of adaptation. At present, obesity is pervasive in wealthy nations like the U.S. So what in the heck happened to moderation and balance? Particularly impacted are those of us of European and Eastern African origin, whose forbearers needed bodies that could efficiently manufacture fat reserves to outlast the periodic famines. As a direct result, many of us have become corpulent, mostly because it's hard for us to fight the natural tendencies of our bodies to accumulate fat. Currently, some 64% of Americans are overweight and more than one third are obese. With that being said, as contemporary living human beings, we don't have to allow nature to get the leg up on us (nature nurture then nurture nature). Being overweight and more specifically, over-fat isn't healthy, especially for those of us who suffer from conditions like hypertension, diabetes, heart conditions and other insufficiencies of adequate, abundant health. But what's the best way to lose weight (fat)and to regain a healthy state of body composition? As you might have guessed, there are to be nearly accurate, thousands of specialized or Doctor/Guru-ized diets, procedures, dieting devices, miracle pills, powders and the like out there, all of which promise you they'll help you get lean and sleek. Some of them actually work, but how can you tell which ones? How do you thread your way through the plethora of dieting on your way to a healthier, slimmer you, without setting off self-destructive behaviors that can incapacitate your dieting efforts? The answer to that question is this: Very Vigilantly. While persuasive and a little facetious, it's nonetheless true. Some things are palpably false, fraudulent, misleading or simply prey on our innermost desires; for example, there's no magic pill (never will be), grapefruit or otherwise, that can in an isolated form cause you to shed the pounds. New-fangled fad diets don't work, and neither do most of the "scientific" ones that are so fervently promoted. Despite this, Americans are willing to spend more than $50 billion a year on fad diets and gimmicks, when in fact the most effective dieting advice comes down to this: Expend more calories than you consume! What I refer to as the two (2) Es, Exercise and Eat Right! Get it! To Ease!!! To ease all that ails us.
This, we know is true; it's just difficult to assemble the willpower necessary to belly-up to such an audaciously unpleasant proclamation. If you're adamant about your health and well-being and want to attain real-results, keep this truth in mind You can lose weight and keep it off. Peranent weight loss can happen. The intention of this article is to help you along the way as you edify and develop the management skills necessary to achieve success by identifying the most common weight-loss myths that can perplex you during your expedition. We've left out the miracle claims and preposterous matter in favor of presenting more reasonable-sounding myths that an intelligent person might be beguiled and enticed by. Let's start with the most omnipresent myth. #1
THE MYTH: Avoiding meals can assist you in losing weight faster.
THE TRUTH: Erroneous, Incorrect and Blatantly WRONG! This is Taking The Low Road! It seems logical, just like its consequence ("the fewer calories you eat, the more weight you'll lose"), but it's not true. The effect is the opposite of what you expect. Dieting is based on the fact that if you burn more calories in a day than you take in, your body will begin burning fat. While this is true, if you expect to lose weight effectively, you need to maintain eating regular meals, especially breakfast. Depriving your body of its necessary fuel and nutrients causes it to go into starvation mode; when this happens, your metabolism slows down so that you can get by on little to no food. Once your metabolism slows, it can be quite difficult to bring it back up to momentum, and until it regains its pace, normal eating will just cause you to gain more weight. It can be a vicious cycle that's excruciatingly difficult to break. In addition, bypassing meals can make you feel lightheaded and weak, can have venomous effects on your cholesterol levels, and can be extremely perilous for diabetics. In a nutshell, fasting and crash diets are forms of self-sabotage best avoided. What's more, eating frequently (and moderately) will leave you less hungry throughout the day and cause a satiated effect, so you're less likely to have or give in to your food cravings. #2
THE MYTH: Starches are Fattening.
THE TRUTH: False and Unsafe. For one thing, it's difficult to completely avoid starches, since they're a major component of staples like bread, pasta, grains, fruits, potatoes, corn, and rice. Even if it were possible to cut out all starches, if you did so you'd be starving your body of the fuel it unconditionally needs in order to maintain proper body-system function. Food consists of only three basic substances or macro-nutrients: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Starches are carbohydrates; and carbohydrates, along with their metabolic products and core nutrients are your body's basic fuel. Most of the fuel your body uses comes from a carbohydrate identified as glucose. Some glucose you might consume in the form of candy or sodas; some carbohydrates in substances like alcohol, quickly break down into glucose. Glucose is absorbed by your cells and used to run your bodily processes; any excess is stored in your liver or converted into fat, where it can be called upon at need. If your body lacks glucose, it'll eventually start using any fuel source it can find. At first these might be fat cells, but as they shrink, your body may begin attacking the protein reserves in your muscles for the fuel it needs, referred to as catabolisys. This is a "last-resort" move generally saved for famine conditions, so if it happens to you, it's bad news. The truth is that your metabolism by virtue of your circadian rhythm is better able to digest, to process and to assimilate certain food sources at certain times of the day Translation: Some foods are more efficiently assimilated at set points of the day because of the composition or complexity of the source and as our metabolism rises and diminishes throughout the day. More complex foods such as starchy carbohydrates become increasingly more difficult to fully take through the digestive process, without a diminished returns effect occurring and fat storage beginning. #3
THE MYTH: Vegetarian or Vegan diets are healthier than omnivorous diets.
THE TRUTH: Not A diet (merely a regime of frequent consumption) consisting entirely of rice and french-fries, or of bananas and cheerios, can be considered vegetarian, but neither diet is healthy in the long run. If you're careful, you can get by just fine on a properly balanced vegan or vegetarian diet, but you'll have to manage your in-take very carefully. Vegetarian diets do tend to be high in fiber and low in fat, but the fact is that humans evolved as opportunistic omnivores. That is, our ancestors ate anything they could get their hands on: greens, tubers, bugs, and the occasional smidgen of meat and this dictated how our bodies today, still require nutrients for efficacy and fuel for performance, thats what we do Perform! Preferably Efficiently! Poor Physical Performance is what we simply call SICK!!! Emotionally, Physically, Spirituallywhat-have-you! The human body developed and evolved to expect a diverse and varied diet, one that could provide all the nutrients it necessitates in a variety of forms. Meat was an important part of their diet, perhaps the most important part because it was so uncommon. Vegetarians must always be sure that they eat enough protein; protein is easily available in meat, so few omnivores have to worry about getting enough, but it's scarce in most plant foods. Fortunately, nuts, beans, and a few other vegetable products are ready sources of protein. If you go vegetarian, you'll also need to be sure you get daily doses of Vitamin B12 and Zinc, supplements often missing in vegetarian diets. Most people can continue to exist as vegetarians if they're extremely careful, but it's a continuous mle, and guess what? You can be just as healthy and out-of-shape on a vegetarian diet as you can on a regular diet, especially if you don't exercise regularly. #4
THE MYTH: Sweating facilitates weight loss.
THE TRUTH: Absolutely If the sweat is exercise induced! Otherwise, all you're doing is losing water weight. Sweating is astonishingly effective at doing what it was meant to do: cooling the body by glazing the skin with evaporative fluids. It was never meant to act as a weight loss system. Lose enough water, and you're toying with dehydration. Dehydration or progressive dehydration can occur if you fail to rehydrate yourself sufficiently after every workout. If you get sufficiently dehydrated, your electrolyte balance will get out of whack, your cells will be starved of the fluids they need, and you could die. Not a happy prospect, so avoid it. For this reason, the old sweatbox and sauna are of no use for losing real weight. Neither are their modern "high-tech" equivalents, such as body wraps and plastic sweat suits, no matter how many people swear by them. All they do is dehydrate you. Yes, you lose weight: two pounds per quart sweated away. But that's weight, not fat. And the moment you drink enough water, you'll gain all that weight back. Like I have said Weight Loss is a LIE! #5
THE MYTH: Fat Free is Calorie Free!
THE TRUTH: YEAH RIGHT!!! All "fat-free" means is that a particular food has no detectable fat content. Sadly, however, is that fat and its related compounds that give most foods their flavor. Ice cream, butter, cheese, and a whole host of non-dairy products, including chocolate, are little more than specially prepared, congealed fat. When manufacturers design many fat-free products, such as bread, cookies, ice cream, and the like, they know these products will be mostly dry and flavorless without fat. Some fat substitutes are available, but they can cause gastrointestinal upset, and most are expensive. This leaves one common ingredient that manufacturers can use to make their products taste better: sugar. And they use it liberally; so many fat-free products are high in calories. Furthermore, plenty of foods like breads and pasta are low in fat, but rich in carbohydrates and we already know what that means. Carbohydrates break down easily into our friend glucose, which can result in increased fat when consumed in excess. You always have to consider calorie and portion size; you're fooling yourself if you do otherwise. Moderation is the key to dieting success Any long-term success for that matter. #6
The Myth: You Either Diet Or Exercise, You Cant Do Both Simultaneously!
The Truth: Dont Get Me Started!!! Yesyou can do both together and you should, it is referred to as Synergy; the coordination of two effective components working concurrently to derive a greater benefit than if isolated. The dieting myths and misconceptions explored in this article represent just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There are thousands of them out there: some are ridiculous and barely worthy of notice-like the suggestion that eating standing up helps you lose weight, or that you can base a diet on your blood type or color of hair-while others are less obvious, like those discussed here. Dieting isn't easy and, while it's human nature to look for a simple solution to a problem, that strategy just won't work in this case. So heed these hints, and take it easy. Don't skip meals, keep your diet properly balanced, and exercise regularly. Avoid all fads, pills, and extravagant claims, because if it sounds too good to be true...well, you know the rest. It doesnt take more than losing a few pounds before you'll notice a difference in the way you look and feel. And, if you lose only a few pounds at first, even if you've been at it for a while, so what? Pick up a five or ten pound bag of flour and carry it around for a day, and you'll see how quickly you'll get tired of lugging that excess weight around. Application of sound methodology is always the most effective means to achieve any objective, with that said, if you want to truly shed those extra kilos of fat, then do yourself a favor and draw up a plan, combine all the necessary elements of success and execute that plan -Kurt Lee Hurley, Veritas Kurt Lee Hurley, President and Founder Partner of Synergy Fitness Systems LLC., Synergy Global Health Solutions LLC. and Creator of Integrated Variable Dynamics is a Nationally Recognized Fitness Expert, Celebrity Trainer, Multi-Certified Fitness Professional, Nutrition Counselor and Personal Empowerment Coach.
